Imagined dialog between Paula and Randy:
Paula: "Where did you get those beads?"
Randy: "They're African!"
Paula: "Mine too! These are blood diamonds."
Tonight's theme is Top Downloads... which doesn't seem very calculable. Legal downloads?
Anoop Desai - Some Usher song
Adam: This didn't start off very well, and that's too bad. The longer the intro can go, the better for the first singer. This also didn't continue very well, and also ended poorly. So, taking that into account it wasn't even consistent. I fear for his future. Apparently this was a song from one of the most popular R&B albums ever... unfortunately it happens to be the least popular song from that album.
Lisa: I don't even know this song. Does anyone like this? (the answer from our group was "No") His sneer and moves were awful.
Randy: "You picked up your swagger." He must mean deodorant, because the song was bad.
Kara: "You kinda just played it safe."
Paula: "I wasn't sure at first" or ever.
Simon: "It was a mess."
Megan Joy - Turn Your Lights Down Low
Adam: Having the bond to Bob Marley that I do, I'm anxious over this performance. I want it to be good, so let's see. I hate the arrangement! Whoever is in charge of these arrangements needs to find a new job (like getting snacks for someone who is better at making arrangements). I didn't like this very much, but it was better than Anoop (not saying much).
Lisa: It's really awkward to watch. There are so few women left, that she'll carry through.
Kara: "In trouble." "Irritating"
Paula: Sounds like she's describing a very special episode of Blossom.
Simon: "Boring, indulgent, monotonous."
Randy: "Like watching paint dry."
Danny Gokey - What Hurts the Most
Adam: I guess he's got like thirty-two sets of glasses now that he's joined AI. I like the frames he's wearing tonight. I've never heard this song before, but he's doing very well with it. The violinist has a dimple. Whoa-- he's got very good vocals.
Lisa: He is a ridiculously good singer. I didn't know that song, but I really liked that. He's definitely going to be one of the last ones [standing].
Paula: "This is where you thrive"
Simon: "Your best performance"
Randy: "Tonight's show starts right here."
Allison Iraheta - Don't Speak
Adam: She looks crazy tonight. She's really breathy tonight. For some reason her vocals were way too loud compared to the rest of the instruments.
Lisa: She looks like a cockatoo! I'm getting a little tired of the "raar!" all the time. She's like a turducken cockatoo.
Randy: "What are you wearing!?"
Paula: "You are serious about this."
Simon: "You shouted it."
Scott MacIntyre - Just the Way You Are
Adam: His hair is terrible... because he's blind, it's like you can't make the normal insensitive jokes about it. He is singing terribly. He only knows how to sing one style. That sounded the same as all of the other songs. It was bad.
Lisa: His hair is like that Arby's commercial with the guy greasing his hair back with a hamburger patty. Lisa disagreed 100% with everything Kara said.
Kara: "That's exactly what you should be doing."
Paula: "It has nothing to do about your challenge" - I think she means his terrible singing, because even blind people can sing.
Simon: "Your best performance by a country mile so far"... but I don't think that's saying much.
Randy: "One of the best of the night"
Matt Giraud - You Found Me
Adam: This is The Fray's new single... very powerful. I hope he tears this up. The first lines were not in key... that's a problem. This is another example what Randy mentioned before... just because you love a song doesn't mean you're going to be great at singing. It sounded like he was puking the song. "You fay-ound mehhh!"
Lisa: It sounds out of control. I did not like that one bit.
Paula: "You aborted the things we love most about you."
Simon: "It felt very put on."
Randy: "You gotta let that flavor out."
Kara: "You have to commit!"
Lil Rounds - I Surrender
Adam: She's not doing well. She's not hitting the low notes, and this song is all low notes.
Lisa: That should have been better than it was. That dress was like Sacajewa was making a horrible basket.
Randy: "You sang it really really well."
Kara: She liked it
Paula: "I don't want to see an Adult Contemporary Lil Rounds"
Simon: "Similar to a wedding performance"
Adam Lambert - Play That Funky Music
Adam: I had some cereal during this one. He did that well, but I cannot stand him one bit.
Lisa: He grossest me out.
Simon: "It was original" "I don't think it's going to make you as popular as last week."
Randy: "You were in the star zone"
Kara: "Every week I cannot wait to see what you are going to do next"
Also, it's Studio 54, not 57. My mother-in-law thinks he looks like Eddie Munster.
Kris Allen - No Sunshine
Adam: I like this song. I like what he's doing with it. He made really good use of the string quartet. That was amazing! I'm stunned.
Lisa: This is my favorite so far tonight.
Randy: "One of the best performances of the night"
Kara: "That is artistry!"
Paula: "Play to your strengths"
Simon: "That was a very very good arrangement of the song"
Bottom Line
Adam: Matt, Anoop, and Scott MacIntyre - Scott will be gone.
Lisa: Megan, Matt, and Anoop - Anoop will be gone.
Adam: I'm predicting that Kris, Danny, and Adam will be the Final Three.

Tonight is "Motown Night." There really are a lot of great artists and sonsg out of Motown. "Do You Love Me" is one of my favorites thanks to "Teen Wolf Too". So they flew the kids out to Detroit.
Smokey Robinson's plastic face doesn't look as bad as it did a few years ago. His eyes sure are blue! Or gray? Or is it grey? No one knows. Lisa says that they're green.
Smokey Robinson has written over 4000 songs... something tells me that he just struck a deal so that whatever he speaks gets immediately copyrighted as a song.
I may be a little more annoyed than usual tonight-- I have been battling a fever and migraines today.
Matt Giraud - Let's Get It On
Adam: I like Matt, which makes me sad that he's going first. I really like this song too. Going first, and being behind the piano might play against him. Let me just say again (possibly write for the first time) that I hate those microphones. I like his sweater-- SWEET- he just got up from the piano and played strongly to the crowd.
Lisa: "I can see double-O seven." His jeans are too tight. "That was solid."
Randy: "I liked that"
Kara: "That was a solid performance." Exactly what Lisa said.
Paula: Ripping off Kara's words (riffing), and hopes that no one realizes how terrible she (Paula) really is.
Simon: "I agree with Randy, who agrees with me, that Matt is a front runner."
Kris Allen - How Sweet It Is
Adam: He's playing a Taylor -- that's a really great guitar. Smokey just said "Don't touch that dial." He's battling Paula for relevance. I like what Kris is doing with the guitars, but the overall arrangement (bass, strings) make it too clean. Did anyone else hear that feedback from the crappy microphone?! He does really well with a stripped down orchestration.
Lisa: "I really like Kris. I think this is not bad and it's not great. The beginning was clunky."
Kara: "You did Kris" - "You did everything right"
Paula: I need my agent to get Kara fired... or demoted. Maybe she could be the new Paula instead of me!
Simon: "You've got to start believing in yourself"
Randy: "You ain't doin' nothin' wrong"
Scott MacIntyre - You Can't Hurry Love
Adam: Scott manages to turn every song into a terrible song. I think his piano playing is part of it. It all sounds the same! Maybe he needs some sunglasses... did I say that last week? When he opened up, he sounded a little like Kenny Loggins. Maybe he's going to crawl on top of the piano! Nope... glued to the bench.
Lisa: "This is the best he's done, but I don't think he's the caliber of the other singers in this competition."
Paula: I zoned out for a second
Simon: "It wasn't a great version of the song."
Randy: "Very hotel kind of performance."
Kara: Something about tempo
Paula just got out a box of crayons for Simon. Seacrest called them "crowns"!
Megan Joy - For Once In My Life
Adam: She's moving around on stage-- I hardly know how to react to that. I didn't think tha twas very good, but I think it has to do with the arrangement.
Lisa: She should scat in the middle of a song... I hope she scats. Her dancing is really awkward tonight. She's not hitting a lot of the notes. That's the first time I didn't really like her.
Randy: "Trainwreck"
Kara: "This was all over the place, bad notes"
Simon: "It was horrible."
Anoop Desai - Ooh Baby Baby
Adam: This isn't going well for him. He's missing notes -- can't find them with two hands, a flashlight, a map, and a special note-finding device.
Lisa: Karaoke syrup nonsense. I really hated that.
Kara: "Has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written." Also started talking about his chest...
Paula: said that he was spot on
Simon: great vocal! WHAT!? I'm shocked by this.
Randy: Agreed that it was great.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! Or pills that make vocals sound terrible... that can't be, because Lisa heard the same thing. Anoop said he wants to do Smokey justice. That made me think that CBS should have a one-hour drama called "Smokey Justice".
Michael Sarvers - Ain't Too Proud to Beg
Adam: This is pretty generic. One thing you can definitely say is that he brings a lot of energy.
Lisa: Uh-oh... Uh... It feels a little phony. I think he's really in trouble this week. He doesn't have the swagger for this song. You've gotta be able to dance, sing, move well.
Simon: "I couldn't wait for it to end"
Randy: "This is just too big for you"
Kara: "It's about artistry"
Lil Rounds - Heat Wave
Adam: I remember this song from Quantum Leap when Sam leaped into a young lady. I hope she gets better, because it's not starting out very well. She's screaming this whole thing. Kara was scowling and shaking her head while Paula was dancing in her crazy bridesmaid dress. She's not doing very well, and if the judges like it, I don't know what I'm going to do.
Lisa: This is bad. This would be the definition of karaoke, combined with charades. I was not a fan of that.
Randy: "You were rushing through the song" - thankfully! Otherwise it would have lasted longer...
Kara: "You look great" "I don't think it was the right song" "It was screaming at certain parts"
Simon: "It sounded like it was too fast"
Adam Lambert - Tracks of My Tears
Adam: I love this song, so I'm nervous about how this is going to happen. I remember that Ace (a few seasons back) changed his style one night, sang a Sinatra song, then got eliminated. This sounds really Nineties... When he stays in those falsetto voices he really loses his tone. He should have tried something more like The Tony Rich Project. All in all, this was very inoffensive, which is a nice change of pace. He looked like he was trying to force himself to cry throughout the whole thing, but couldn't make it happen. HOWEVER, I did like that version of the song.
Lisa: He's always acting! It's like he's putting on these different character outfits. That was really good, and I liked that, even though I don't like him.
Kara: "One of the best performances of the night" - she said "I've got 6 words for you", but dango, if her math isn't terrible
Simon: "The best performance of the night" -- but Gokey hasn't sung yet!
Randy: I didn't catch this part (dizziness)
Danny Gokey - Get Ready
Adam: Gokey's got a smoky voice. This is coming across like "Shaft" -- oh man he's good. OH MAN HE'S DANCING WITH THE BACKUP SINGERS!!! That was cool. Now he needs to fly out of here and rescue Pepper Potts!
Lisa: *gasp* - followed by another *gasp* - He didn't listen to Smokey's advice. That distracted me the whole time. I was disappointed in Gokey-- he should have rocked this week.
Simon: "Clumsy and amateurish"
Randy: "Wasn't your best performance, but I love the energy and just the feeling of it"
Kara: "Good, not great"
Allison Iraheta - Papa Was a Rolling StoneAdam: I don't know if this is good or not, but she hit those notes insanely well at the end.
Lisa: I hope she tears it up, because she can really do that - she's got a powerful voice, you know? That was awesome-- I loved it.
Randy: "One of the [cliche/euphemism]"
Kara: "That is from God"
Paula: has a mustache drawn on her face. She might be drunk
Simon: "You are a survivor.... That was really one of your best performances."
Bottom Three
Lisa: Sarver, Megan, and Scott -- with Sarver being out.
Adam: Same, but hoping that Scott is gone.

Lisa got this one right with Alexis being shown the door.

When Seacrest was opening the show, everyone looked like creepy mannequins(especially Adam Lambert).
Kara looks like she stole a gown off the set of Dynasty. Did she plump her lips? Paula seems to have deflated from the Botox a little.
Oh crud, I can't believe this is a two-hour show. I have two redbox DVDs I need to return by 9-- guess that isn't going to happen.
Simon doesn't like country music-- I'm guessing because it's our country... Country music to a Brit would be something more like ... Celtic punk.
Randy Travis is in the audience. I liked him in "The Visitation". Rockin' the Johnny Cash a little-- good gospel. His teeth are huge! He could bite a tree in half the long way. Is that his wife sitting next to him?
1. Michael Sarver - Ain't Goin' Down 'til the Sun Comes Up
Adam: He's doing really well on this. He's so smooth-- almost too smooth. He's smiling so big he can't make some of the words. He's not moving around enough... he's moving like it's a ballad, but singing like he's on fire!
Lisa: I'm giving that an A+ -- Why would he do that to himself??
Randy: "I loved the song, but..." I hated the song?
Kara: "I missed the big notes"
Paula: blah blah blah, said someone's name, said something positive, who cares
Simon: "I couldn't understand a single word you were singing by the way"... Clumsy? Surprised by this because of how much Simon likes when people don't forget words. Sarver was puking a dictionary for crying out loud!
2. Allison Iraheta - Blame It On Your Heart
Adam: I think her voice is awesome. I still can't believe that's a 16 year-old voice. She does not carry herself like a 16 year-old on this show. Remember what's her name? Me neither, because this girl has it down. I want her to star as some-no-name-make-it-big-in-the-1950's movie. Does she look like Rachael Ray?!? That's it! She looks like Rachael Ray!
Lisa: A little too much "moouah" screechy.
Kara: "You could sing the alphabet"
Randy: "Yeah" (aloud) and then in his head, "I usually say trite things like that!"
Paula: I am obsolete
Simon: "A little bit tuneless in parts" - "It was rock solid" - "Precocious"
Randy (again): "Dope"
3. Kris Allen - To Make You Feel My Love
Adam: I love this song, so I want to hear this. Read today that he's has been a worship pastor for awhile. No guitar tonight. He looks like a little baby up there. He will be moving on into the top 10, cut a record or two for Rocketown, and be adored by fans of John Mayer, Phil Wickham, and Monk & Neagle. He really hit some of those high notes!
Lisa: Thumbs up - no words. Then, five minutes later, "It was really great."
Paula: I am wasting America's time right now.
Simon: "Terrific, great great great choice of song" "completely in control"
Randy: "Tender moments from my dawg, Kris" "Tender-dawg" I am perpetuating stereotype.
Kara: "I didn't even know that was country-- it was beautiful" So... country is not beautiful, newbie?
4. Lil Rounds - Independence Day
Adam: She's missing the point of country music-- to apply an Southern United States accent to good instrumentals. This is not very good. This song is better than what she's doing it. She's very good, but she did not do well at this one. That last note was good.
Lisa: She might rock the chorus. Nope...
Randy: "It didn't feel comfortable for me on you"
Kara: "You'd have to be deaf".... "You did what you felt" -- "Not your best"
Paula: My speech is slurred and my comments are irrelevant
Simon: "Felt and looked uncomfortable"
5. Adam Lambert - Ring of Fire
Adam: Please do NOT destroy this song. His staring is creepy. I feel like he's about to say inappropriate things to me. This is like a fetish performance. I am uncomfortable with that. This made me feel like I was going to vomit. Just figured this out! She looks like a blonde Mrs. Perkins (High School English Teacher).
Lisa: Oh, yuck! It's bad acting. He pushes every gag button in my body. Something you'd see on CSI: Miami while in a bad club. I think everything he does is fake. Over the top musical theater.
Dave: Does he have a cup on?!
Kara: "All a little strange"
Paula: I am striving to be heard, but just can't
Simon: "What the hell was that?" - "horrific" - "indulgent rubbish"
Randy: "Nine Inch Nails doing a country song" -- baloney!
6. Scott MacIntyre - Wild Angels
Adam: This sounds the exact same as last week. I thought he'd get voted off after that performance. Just because he's the sentimental favorite doesn't mean you have to be so sappy all the time.
Lisa: This all mushes together. It is cheesy. Just have fun sometimes!
Paula: I want to point out that I'm still on this show. Someone should pick a fight with me!
Simon: Simon is so annoyed at Paula. "I don't think yet you're choosing good enough songs."
Randy: "This is a singing competition"
Kara: "We want you to up your game a little bit"
7. Alexis Grace - Jolene
Adam: Brooke White sang this just song just last year. The opening did not grab me. It is not as good as Brooke's last year. Alexis was all over the place with this -- some notes she really hit hard, while on others she was as thin as grass.
Lisa: She doesn't have an emotional connection.
Randy: Good song choice, but bad performance.
Kara: "I think you lost your edge a bit"
Paula: If I disagree with the others, maybe my NCAA brackets will win!
Simon: "It was okay"
8. Danny Gokey - Jesus Take the Wheel
Adam: He looks like a skiing assassin. WOW! When he got to the chorus, it is amazing! I'm stunned! While I can't account for the driving advice, that was so good!
Lisa: I hate that coat. That's better than Carrie Underwood!
Kara: "Woo!" Oh no... she's a woo girl.
Paula: something...
Simon: "My only problem is with what you're wearing."
Randy: knit-pick.
9. Anoop Desai - You Are Always Mine
Adam: Anoop is twelve feet tall! This is fantastic! I'm a little surprised. I really like this arrangement.
Lisa: It's really good!
Paula: I forgot what I was going to say!
Simon: "Zero to hero" - "One of my favorite performances of the entire night."
Randy: "You can really sing! I liked the arrangement."
Kara: "Probably the best performance of the night."
10. Megan Joy - I Go Walkin' After Midnight
Adam: I think this is going to sound pretty generic. I really like her voice, but she's got to kick something into gear. I hope she nails it. The warm-up indicated that it would be different, but how could it be? Oh I like this arrangement. Okay, this is nice. I hope that she rips it up. Oh she did. It sounds like it's a version from the 1950's that I have never heard before. Pitch problems at the end.
Lisa: (putting Oliver to bed right now)
Randy: "It all really worked."
Kara: "Perfect song, perfect look."
Paula: If I get the flu, will people care about me?
Simon: Simon is flicking off the camera while he scratches his eyes. He really liked it too.
11. Matt Giraud - So Small
Adam: This style is very much like Gavin Degraw. This isn't bad, but I don't know. I have to close my eyes when I listen to him, because his look is distracting-- subtle.
Lisa: JT vibe here... That was my favorite tonight.
Kara: loved itPaula: Mentioned piercings, stammered some more
Simon: "You haven't had enough credit for your vocals." "Outsang Danny"
Bottom Three :
Adam: Sarver (because he went first), Lil Rounds, and Scott MacIntyre is out of here.
Lisa: Scott MacIntyre and maybe Alexis.

Jorge and Jasmine are out-- I'm glad to have been wrong all the way around on that prediction.
Adam out.

So, unique to this season is a Top 13 for American Idol... they showed off a shiny new stage. It's not that much different.
Randy: "They've got to bring it hard."
Kara: What's with the garbage bag bow around her neck?
Paula: Looks botoxed and stuffed... and some of the feathers poking out.
Simon: "Don't forget the words."
Two are going home in the first round!
Tonight, Michael Jackson is the theme. That's too bad, though, because no one save David Cook has managed to pull off a Prince of Pop song on this show.
1. Lil Rounds - The Way You Make Me Feel
Adam: I don't like what she was wearing-- like she turned a prom dress into a pant-suit. Of course Paula was dancing like a townie at The Bar in Alta Vista on Friday night.
She was good, but it's a bummer that she went first. I hope she gets better, because that won't win the show.
Paula complimented her clothes... the botox went straight into her eyeballs. Did she get plastic surgery in celebration of the Michael Jackson theme?
Simon called her song-choice lazy. He hates what she's wearing -- and he's right.
Then Paula changed her mind on the outfit.
Lisa:
2. Scott MacIntyre - Keep The Faith
Adam: He's wearing a military jacket with campaign ribbons... but because of his blindness I have my doubts that he actually saw any combat. This is what David Archuleta wishes he could have done, but in a bad way! It was an obscure song, and wasn't very good. Kara said it wasn't the most obvious song... duh. She's right that it wasn't dynamic-- but he's being "true to himself". I think he should be offended by that. It wasn't raw enough for me... felt polished and ground down into an inoffensive and ineffective nub.
Simon was actually being helpful.
Lisa: Cheesy!
3. Danny Gokey - BYT
Adam: Danny's the early favorite here... Oh nice! He brought the funk! Interesting "Adam and Lisa to Danny" connection (not really)--He was the music pastor at a UPC church in Milwaukee, WI, and left when his wife got sick. Well, a lot of the people from his church ended up going to Life Church in Germantown, WI. My brother-in-law is now a pastor at Life Church in Germantown.
I haven't heard the song before, but that was really really good. His vocals were insane! How'd he do that???
Laura just determined that Paula got her eyes done... I think maybe her nose too.
Back to Gokey -- he was great! The judges had nothing but compliments for him. Even the dancing was just out of his passion. They see the joy he has (from Jesus Christ). Truthfully, it was just straight up fun.
Lisa: Looks like Robert Downey, Jr.
4. Michael Sarver - You Are Not Alone
Adam: I hoped this would make me forget about the awful naked Michael and Lisa Marie music video... instead it reminded me of All-4-One. He should have made it more John Michael Montgomery. It was like an amazing recording of a Disney Soundtrack. I want him to keep his accent when he sings (and I think the judges to do). Instead it totally disappears, and he sounds like he's from Iowa. It was a solid vocal, but boring-ish.
Lisa:
5. Jasmine - I'll Be There
Adam: First of all, this is a J5 song -- what the heck? She looks like Shanice! I finally figured that out. I really like this song. Her voice is lower than baby Michael's. That's the problem with a theme like this one -- everyone popular song is compared to the original, and every unfamiliar ones are ignored. It was good-ish.
Lisa thinks Paula had a facelift too.
Lisa: Thought exactly like Kara -- amazing! She's psychic.
6. Kris Allen - Remember the Time
Adam: I can tell Lisa is going to really like his look. I like this arrangement. A funky acoustic driven version really works. The background vocals were weak. The judges will either love it or hate it -- it's polarizing. I like it. It worked for me. I liked this way more than I thought I would. Reminds me of Jason Mraz, but raspy. He performed the heck out of that thing.
Simon's got a good point about "pulling the wife out so early" -- all those teen girls are going to be upset... or maybe they won't. This isn't the 60's.
Lisa:
7. Allison Iraheta - Give In To Me
Adam: I like the rock action she's bringing. I have never heard that song before -- it was good, but had some lazy vocals.
She's only 16!!!! Oh my goodness, she sounded way more experienced than that.
Lisa:
8. Anoop Desai - Beat It
Adam: The requisite odd camera angles now come out for the rock songs.... His voice is so smooth. I wonder if this is the best song for him -- Simon is smiling big. His voice is so smooth... just smooth, no growl. This song needs a little edge to it. He doesn't have the edge.
Lisa: "Audition tape for Beauty and the Geek"
9. Jorge Nuńez - Never Can Say Goodbye
Adam: He makes faces like a grown-up Sanjaya. The arrangement is awful. Terrible song... his vocals are mostly solid, but it's all Adventureland special music. It wasn't very good at all.
Lisa: He's got sexual predator looks all over his face
10. Megan Joy Corkrey - Rockin' Robin
Adam: Another J5 song. That is a cop out. She sort of sounds like Duffy. This arrangement is so terrible! Who ever is in charge of these arrangements need to stop that. It sounds like bad karaoke tracks. It's too easy for it to be a cheese fest. Hopefully the judges don't hold that against her. She deserves to go on. The music director needs to hold a team meeting. Simon was too harsh, and I think he's lashing out because of how bad the instrumentals were.
Lisa:
11. Adam Lambert - Black and White
Adam: He's puking the whole song... it's not in his key. He's vocals aren't good -- he isn't finding the notes. Can't right any more. It was.. can't.... I can't disagree more with the judges. It was ridiculously bad. Kara didn't know some of those notes existed-- neither did I, but I have a different reaction to that.
Lisa: "Garish" "Hated that"
12. Matt Giraud -
Adam: He looks like a chubbier, boxier faced Justin Timberlake -- by style, not design. Once again the arrangement belongs in the waste bin. He had an okay thing going until he tried the falsetto. Then it all fell apart. That was so boring, I couldn't even remember the name of the song. It was not bad.
Lisa:
13. Alexis Grace - Dirty Diana
Adam: Her weird jumper was distracting. I don't like the song, but she sure was good at it! Next round for sure.
Lisa:
Top 3
Adam: Gokey, Lambert, and Grace. It's my prediction, not my opinion. Gokey was great.
Out of competition
Adam: Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre -- possibly Anoop.
