More on the boar17 Nov, 2008 | Posted by: Adam Posegate | RSS | Google Reader

I decided to write some more notes about the book that was to be inspired by the Boar's Head.

It's been a loooong time since I've approached it.  I've decided to pursue the picture book aspect, and make the book rhymy (but not as a rule).  It will have rhymes, but not be slave to them.

My boys' names may make appearances, and so may the dog's!

The Boar Head... grandpa's attic... all on hold04 Mar, 2008 | Posted by: Adam Posegate | RSS | Google Reader

It's been almost 18 months since I last blogged about that book I was planning to write.  I don't know what happened.  Too many concepts.  I completed a chapter of a boring book, then decided that it wasn't something I would even like to read, so stopped writing it.  I tried going with a cutesy rhyming book, but that would have been illustration heavy, and I don't want to pay an illustrator.  And I don't know an illustrator.  Just an update, I suppose.

With literary ripe names like Harmon and Oliver, I reckon inspiration is just keen observation away.  In other inspiration related news, Christmas gifts added several carved wood masks and a caribou hide to the collection.  That's right, a reindeer pelt.  Santa was none too pleased with Comet this year.

Brand New Book is on it's Way16 Sep, 2006 | Posted by: Adam Posegate | RSS | Google Reader

Muahahahaaaa
Lisa and I have started our story, tentatively titled Grandpa's Attic. If all goes according to plan, it could be one of a series. Brilliant. At the time I'm printing this, it's four paragraphs and 457 words long. If I were a senior in high school, it'd qualify as extra credit.

Marley and The Boar30 Aug, 2006 | Posted by: Adam Posegate | RSS | Google Reader

While Lisa is running errands, I'm experimenting with different locations for hanging the boar head that I purchased on eBay. As previously stated, it's an inspiration piece for writing. I'm finding that it's a bit difficult to pick the perfect location. The boar is mounted in a way which has it's head looking slightly to the right from its cape. This may have been fun for the taxidermist, but is proving a challenge for me, for you see I am unable to put it in a left-handed corner (when facing the wall) for it will be staring at the wall.

Maybe it's better that way, though. Maybe that gives a better profile shot. The angle I currently have is both orthodonturally inspiring and downright awkward (see below). For you see, I was hoping to be able to glance at the boar and think of more things to write. All this angle allows me to do is schedule more frequent visits to the chiropractor.

Awkward....
This is the actual angle at which I can view the boar from my desk.

Marley, my protective mutt, barks his head off at the thing to let me know of the eminent danger. I tried to get cute funsy video of the barking, but he clams up like Helen Keller in a round of Pictionary whenever the camera comes out.

I also wonder and fear if when my wife returns from her errands I might find myself the recipient of a descriptively worded chore resulting in my repositioning of said head in the room visually red and you'll know if the blog you've read.

Ha!

So, I'm leaving my hammer out so as to not increase the number of steps I must collectively climb and descend in this entire process.

The javelina/peccary/boar head arrived today. It's bigger than Marley, and he took it upon himself to protect me from and warn me of the beast. More on that later. Actually, more on that now. He just started barking at the thing like crazy! It ought to be alright once it's out of his normal range of perception-- namely high up on the wall in my office.

Lisa and I discussed how to begin working on the story now. She's a great helper. Once we've nailed down the characterization, I think it's time to just start typing. That's sort of my thing... improv, I mean. I won some awards for comedic improv acting in high school and college. That's not bragging, that's fact. Bragging is as follows: I was really funny! Some people aren't. Some people see how other people are funny and try to do it, but fall short. That is often sad to witness and awkward to experience. I've done that before. It's no good to fall flat on the face or other extremity. I got better though.

The Boar and the story...20 Aug, 2006 | Posted by: Adam Posegate | RSS | Google Reader

I have won an eBay auction for a mounted boar head. I will take pictures of it and post them here once it has arrived and it is up on the wall.

It's ugly, and Lisa is glad I'm finally done talking about it. She balances the ecstasy with trepidation at the thought of it now being manifest and tangible and hanging in our home. It will be in our office, where I will be using it as an inspiration piece as we start writing our stories.

Ideally these stories will be sold and published and we will be infamous (like famous, but better...) writers and storytellers.

I can't wait.
